DO NOT TRY TO UPDATE OR UPGRADE YOUR iPHONE 3G TO LASTEST FIRMWARE 2.2 IT WILL LOCK YOUR PHONE LIKE FOR EVER.
The 2.2 firmware update on 1st gen iPhone 2G works great, But the 2.2 firmware update on iPhone 3G is a horrible nightmare.
I did update my iphone 2G on firmware 2.2 and it worked great, Then i was flying in the air and also updated my iphone 3G to new 2.2 firmware but that made my iphone sim locked again and now its nothing more then expensive ipod touch.
So once again am warning ya all “Don’t update your iPhone 3G to firmware 2.2″
1) Its firmware and modem baseband will be updated and there is no way on earth to downgrade your iphone 3G modem baseband v2.28.
2) You might be able to downgrade your iPhone 3G from firmware 2.2 to 2.1 or 2.0 but the modem baseband which runs the trubo/rebel sim that unlocks your phone to use any sim will not work even you have downgraded your iphone to firmware 2.1.
3) But if you are one of us who did accidently updated iphone 3G to firmware 2.2 , the only way on earth to unlock your network sim of iphone 3G 2.2 is to buy a new turbo/rebel unlocking sim which gives Guarantee that their new sim works with iphone 3G 2.2 firmware unlocking with v2.28 Base Band.
4) Don’t risk your iphone 3G trying to downgrade your iphone base band or firmware coz i have already tried ziphone base band downgrade patch. In few cases people have killed their iphone 3G for ever. So downgrading is a big RISK.
5) You can only update with itunes and jailbreak with Quick Pwn your iphone 3G to firmware 2.2 but will not be able to unlock it like we do it with iphone 2G.
i am not able to unlock my iPhone 3G with my old Turbo/Rebel unlock sim. But is expected to see new unlocking Turbo/Rebel sims for unlocking iphone 3G firmware 2.2 baseband 2.28 in market.

2My iphone 3g is 2.1 firmware working fine with with universal sim but 3g network drops at times. Is this a sim problem or iphone firmware?

3I just got my Iphone and accidentally upgraded firmware from 2.0 to 2.2
I am with Rogers, if I don’t plan on unlocking my phone to use with other carriers can I still jailbreak my Iphone without turning my Iphone into a Itouch?

4YES, (this case is only for iPhone 3G)
you can easily jailbreak your iphone 3G to use third party softwares on firmware 2.2,
but keep in mind you can not use any other sim except your contract (ROGER) sim on firmware 2.2 till today. may be after some week there will be hack for using any sim on 2.2 firmware for iphone 3g.
still confused let me know. and dont forget to visit techbot again.
simply go to this link and see how to jailbreak you iphone 3g… but keep in mind firmware 2.2 will not work on any other sim except your contract (ROGER) sim

5i have an i phone “2G” and i have tmobile on it, my friend actually unlocked it for me so i dont have a back up. im running 2.1 on it, i wanted to know if i do up date it will i lose everything???

6hey nice to hear from u guyz im also trapped by that thing my ihpone 3g 16 gb is not working now even i bought software to unlock it i paid 30doolors but still its not working n i bought rebel sim card which is also not working now i heard from u guyz that it gona work with new rebel sim card is that true?will u please reply me back i will be very gr8 full to u thnx

7I’ve had version 2.2(5G77) on my Iphone 3g since i got it in December 2008, and I’ve never had any problems with it. The only complaint i have is that my apps crash alot.

8i live in dubai(united arab emirates).. i dint buy my iphone from my network carrier (ETISALAT)….instead i bought it frm a normal mobile phone outlet… its unlocked! can i jailbreak my iPHONE???
ANSWER: Yes you can jail break your iphone 3g any time on any type… but keep in mind, unlocking for iphone 3g is not much possible without rebel/turbo sims, so think twice before u update ur iphone firmware via itunes.

11if you update your iphone 3g to 2.2 you can still unlock if you have Cydia open Cydia click on manage,click on sources then on top of that you see edit press it then add enter the source url: http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com as soon you finish entering the source click on add then the download it. if you finish go to changes install source then remember to turn off your 3G then reboot your phone
