Sony has been making thin-and-light notebooks for more than a decade, since long before the parade of monikers landed on "notebook". (Their original Vaio 505 in 1997 was a huge leap in design that brought the entire industry forward.)
Their latest ultra portable notebook/netbook is the 1.4 pound P-series. It offers two essential elements for portable productivity: a 1600 pixel-wide screen (view entire pages and documents and forget the notion of horizontal scrolling) and a respectably large keyboard (16.5mm pitch).
The 8" LED-backlit 1600×768 display has extremely high pixel density and so is extremely crisp. The Sony P also features any Intel 1.86GHz (max) processor, 128GB solid-state HDD (max), and 2GB RAM (max). The integrated battery has an optimal 4-hour runtime (2.5 hours under normal use). An enhanced battery with double runtime is also available.
Thoughtful features like integrated webcam (great for Skype video), A2DP Stereo Bluetooth, and GPS add great finishing touches to the design, which comes in four gemstone-themed colors: Garnet Red, Emerald Green, Crystal White, and Onyx Black.
